Okeana/Shandon, Ohio

The Okeana and Shandon areas of Butler County are defined by their strong sense of history and a sense of community. The village of Shandon was established by Welsh settlers and is still rich in farmland and historical buildings. It was settled by the family of Edward Bebb, whose son William was the 19th governor of Ohio. Near Okeana is the Governor Bebb Preserve and Pioneer Village. Managed by the Metroparks of Butler County, the park attracts visitors for wildlife observation, hiking, picnics, and a glimpse of history in the 1799 birthplace cabin and boyhood home of Governor Bebb. The site also has six other authentic log cabins and covered bridge circa 1850.
